#Wwow - Top 10 Online Sites for Free Photos

Say Cheese! Ever since I became an author, I've had to use pictures for everything! My blog, my website, promotional badges, promotional videos, book trailers ... the list goes on. So, finding a good place online can be time consuming. That's why I stepped in today to tell you of FREE places to find pictures online. If you don't think it's important to use royalty free images and to just copy/paste, you better think differently. Read this from author Roni Loren: Bloggers Beware: You Can Get Sued for Using Pics on Your Blog

I do not work for or represent these places in any way. I've just stumbled upon them and find them useful sites.

1. Open Clip Art
2. Wikepedia Commons - a database of freely used media files
3. Stock XChg - the leading source of free stock photos
4. 20 Free Online Stock Videos - an article that shares 20 different places
5. Stock Vault
6. Creative Commons - Search for free photos or videos from several public domains
7. Free Digital Photos - an extensive selection of free photos
8. Dreamtime - Offers free weekly photos for download.
9. Free Photos Bank
10. Free Stock Photos
11. Photo Pin

Happy picture hunting!

#WWoW! Authors join Read Tuesday!

Here's an opportunity for authors to promote their books during the holiday season... READ TUESDAY.
It'll be a huge day like Black Friday, but for buying and gifting books at amazing sale prices.

In 2013, the date for Read Tuesday will be Tuesday, December 10.

It's SIMPLE TO SIGN UP and participate. In fact, I've already done it! My self-published books will be part of this HUGE HOLIDAY SALES EVENT!

THE ORIGIN OF READ TUESDAY
*taken directly from the READ TUESDAY Website.*
On Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there are great discounts on electronics, tools, toys, and clothes, for example, but very few books seem to be discounted more than usual. There are millions of books to choose from. Most tend to remain at ordinary prices during these big sales events.

Read Tuesday is a special event dedicated to big book savings. Thousands of books will be on sale on Read Tuesday. This is a great opportunity for readers to stock up on books from their favorite participating authors and publishers.

Discounted books also make great gifts for the holidays. It’s easy to gift e-books, returns are not a problem with most retailers, the gift is delivered instantly (but you can schedule when to have it delivered), and there are no shipping and handling charges. Share the gift of reading.

Read Tuesday is also a great opportunity for authors, small publishers, and booksellers to benefit from a huge holiday sale event. Books are featured in their exclusive catalog once you sign up for the event.

So, with the countdown beginning to the holiday season, here's a chance for authors to promote our books to shoppers. This event is going to be huge with a large marketing campaign that will ensure maximum exposure. Sign up. Join the hundreds of other authors participating already.

Then, get back to work... and Keep Writing!

#WWow - Loot? Booty? SWAG? What to do.

SWAG Ideas & Places

SWAG: loot, booty, plunder, valuables

What’s a author to do?

A newbie writer friend who’s going through her first blog tour soon, asked me about SWAG and giveaways last week. So, I thought I’d share a few ideas here as well as places to create SWAG online.

Here’s a list of ideas:
·        Bookmarks
·        Postcards
·        Canvas Bags
·        T-shirts
·        Pens
·        Notebooks
·        Notepads
·        Sticky Notes
·        Magnets
·        Pins/Buttons
·        Cozy
·        Keychain

The list is endless. What I enjoy are SWAG items that are related to the book.

For example, for my upcoming release, Love and Other Games (Oct. 1), I will be giving away a Ty beanie doll dressed in Olympic garb. My story in this anthology is about a snowboarder named TY participating in the Olympics. I thought it was a cute idea.

Release Day Giveaway! Join FB Party! Amazon.com: Ty Beanie Babies - Victory Olympics Bear (Internet Exclusive): Toys & Games

We’re also giving away Olympic pins, like this one:

Another item we’ll give away is a necklace that one of the heroines wears:

If you’d like a chance to win any of these SWAG items or learn more about our Love and Other Games release, please come sign up for our Facebook Release Day Party! https://www.facebook.com/events/353106031489358/

The point here is --- Relate your SWAG to your book theme!

Now, the places you can visit to make easy SWAG. Here are a few I’ve used or heard about:

Tammy also wrote a post a few weeks ago about SWAG here

I'm curious to know what type of SWAG you like to receive. Please leave a comment below!

#Wwow - Creative Online Promotion Tools #2 #promotion

Creative Online Promotion Tools

Last week I shared Online Promotion Tool #1 (Powtoon). This week, I have another three favorite tools to create original, fun promotion for your books.

Tool #2: Animoto (www.animoto.com)
Animoto is a fun tool to create videos of photos and/or videos. The best part is you can create a 30 second video FREE. You can pay for the more advanced version. Tammy posted about that HERE.

Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.
Just to show you what you can do in 30 seconds, here’s a video I created for release day of my debut novel, Time Changes Everything.

Personalize funny videos and birthday eCards at JibJab!
Tool #3: Jib Jab Freebies (www.jibjab.com)
Creative tool to create hilarious videos/ecards/minimovies. You add in your photos to people’s bodies and it makes for a great laugh. Here is a video to promote ST Bende’s Elsker and my books, Time Changes Everything, Breaking the Rules and Trouble with Gold. Our heroes become Chippendales!

Tool #4: Face in the Hole
This is another funny way to promote your characters or book. Face in the Hole allows you to place your “character” photo onto any photo you want. Here are a few ways I’ve used this:

This is ME with Jake (aka Matt Bomer) from Time Changes Everything.

As you can see, I have a rather strange sense of humor, yet I’ve found these tools to be different than the regular blog post or FB post. Something different catches attention.

I’d love to see what you’ve put together! Share your links below!

#Wwow - Creative Online Promotion Tools #1 #writingtip

Creative Online Promotion Tools!

It's the moment you've been waiting for ... book release day! Now what? Hopefully you've planned a blog tour, tweeted and facebooked information. But you've got to promote your book in creative ways to get your book out there! Here are a few online promotion tools I've found to help you.

PowToon Cartoons: PowToon helps you create animated videos or presentations for FREE. Once you create the cartoon, you can upload it to Youtube and ... BAM! You have a fun promotional video that's different. Here are a few examples I've made to give you an idea of what you can do:

I used this as a guest blog post during my book blog tour.

I helped a friend promote her book at my blog with this creative character interview.

I hope you try it out! What other ways can you use Powtoons? If you create something, share the link below!

Keep Your Website Updated. #wwow

One of the first things I think an author needs - besides a social media presence - is a website. This is like your home on the web. It reflects you. Your work is here, maybe even a blog. This is where readers will come to learn about you and what other releases you have. So make sure you keep it up to date.

Obviously release days are busy, and getting on your site to make sure it's updated might not be top priority, but it needs to be on your to do list. Too often I visit authors sites weeks after a new release and the new book is still on the coming soon page. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much. Of course I know the book is out and no longer coming soon, but I am also very involved in the book world as an author. A reader might have just read the first book in the series, came to your website and has no idea the book released. And you could be missing out on a sale.

Be redundant on your site, but not too much. Have a blog on there? Add things in the side bar. Like links to
your specific series or genre. Do this on the main page as well, but not on every page. Make sure your site is easy to navigate and not to busy. You want to keep the readers attention, not have them search for things to where they might not return.

If you write multi-genres under one pen name like I do, make sure you have different pages for those. I write contemporary and erotic. If I have a reader who only likes my tamer pieces, I certainly don't want them to think Bound By Pleasure, my BDSM is tame and be wide-eyed disappointed.

Often times when I am doing work on my website, I travel along the bigger authors sites and see the things they've done. I must admit, I love Jill Shalvis's site. Its super cute and easy to use. So if you visit her site and mine, you might find a few similarities.

The last thing I want to hit on, is make sure everything has a place. Don't throw everyone on one page. Keep it organized and easy on the eyes.

See ya next week!
